Review: Concept #5

Considerations: everyone who "consumes" a media product brings his/her own background/experience to it (someone who has been harassed online may view Disconnected differently than someone who was not a social media user)

Review: Concept #4

Codes and Conventions: media products use a specific formula which we are familiar with in order to "tell their story"....hip-hop videos contain scantily-clad women, fruit carts are run over in a chase scene, coaches corner includes something about hockey , something about kids (hockey-playing kids) and something about the military very rarely, something comes along that changes the rules and creates something new: Seinfeld, Nirvana, Toy Story

Review: Concept #3

Creeds.....values....what's right / what's wrong? what's over the line?....what might be ok in Canada (swearing in the Osbornes ) might not be in the USA but may be different in another place (Denmark, for example) the values of a society are constantly changing (Ellen no in the 90s but defo ok now)and the media reflects that (or does it determine that?)

Review: Concept #2

Construction a) all media are careful constructions nothing happens by accident...everything is carefully planned (ads, Nipplegate, Seahaven) b) media products can affect or thoughts/behaviours/actions etc (violent video games, online sites, Pulp Fiction/desensitization)

Review: Concept #1

Commercial: all media exists to make money....all media is owned by a few corporations...media is constantly looking for ways to maximize revenue...generally it's buying the thing (going to a movie) or the ads in the thing (tv commercials) or product placement (E.T,) or merchandise or wherever a buck can be made this is not necessarily a good thing or a bad thing, it just is therefore, profitability is much more important than quality
